Dodgers Best Nationals, 5-4

Posted Aug 28, 07 7:16 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Derek Lowe gave up three homers to the Nationals last night, but the Dodgers' bats gave him enough run support to improve his season record to 11-11. Jeff Kent ignited two rallies just a day after being hit in the head by a pitch, and Juan Pierre went two for four with his 52nd stolen base of the season.

Mike Bascik, who gave up Barry Bonds' 756th home run, was charged with the loss.  The Dodgers still trail the Padres by 3 1/2 games in the NL wild-card race, but a loss by the Diamondbacks last night bumped LA to 5 1/2 games back in the NL West.
