Madoff: I Can't Believe They Didn't Catch Me

Gives first prison interview, and he's looking a little buff

(Newser) – Prison life appears to be agreeing with Bernie Madoff. A lawyer who represents victims met with Madoff today and said he appears fit. "He looked pretty good and seems to be working out," said attorney Joseph Cotchett. "He looked a lot better than he has in some months since I've seen photographs of him." In the four-hour-plus interview, Madoff expressed surprise he got away with his Ponzi scheme so long, reports ABC News.

"There were several times that I met with the SEC and thought, 'They got me,'" Madoff told Cotchett, who scored the interview by threatening to sue Madoff's wife. "He cares about Ruth, but he doesn't give a ---- about his two sons, Mark and Andrew," said Cotchett. The attorney said he's unsure whether he will name Ruth or the sons in his lawsuit, but he expects to name Madoff's brother Peter as a conspirator.

He obviously wanted to speak with us because in his opinion, certain members of his family knew nothing about it, had no involvement of it. - Victims' attorney Joseph Cotchett

I especially like the statement "He looked pretty good and seems to be working out," I can only assume the reason being that the boys in Cell Block C must be chasing him around the courtyard trying to find out where he stashed some of the money. You know a few laps around the courtyard a day can do us all some good.

And, I'm the last sister. That I'm gonna get it is a given. But hey, doesn't the fact that I'm willing to Shawshank it mean anything?
