Seuss' Lorax Slated to Be 3D Movie

Share

(Newser) – Dr Suess' green-themed story The Lorax is becoming the first of his works to get the 3D treatment, Variety reports. Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment plan to release the animated picture in 2012, on what would have been the author's 108th birthday. His 1971 book told the story of a greedy businessman who strips a forest of its trees with disastrous consequences, despite dire warnings from the tree-hugging title creature.

"The Lorax" has become a symbol for the environmentalist movement in the decades since Suess' 1971 children's book.   (©miss_rogue)

Ted Geisel was prescient in an uncanny way when he wrote the book and explored themes of greed and how that can lead to the destruction of the environment. - Illumination Entertainment producer

Are there any treasured books from my childhood that they are not going to ruin by making into a movie? Reply

Oh No! 90 minutes of 3-D indoctrination on the environment. Is Gore an executive producer? Reply
