iPhone Feature Catches Thieves

Stolen phone recovered thanks to new software

Share

(Newser) – Apple addicts were excited by the new Find My iPhone feature, and that excitement paid off for one Colorado teen, who used it help catch a thief, Mashable reports. Dustin Simantob, 15, pinpointed his phone, stolen after his father’s car was broken into during a camping trip; police recovered two iPhones, Simantob’s wallet, and a GPS device—as well as property from another car.

“Apparently the family had done a few things like this before and the local police had been trying to catch and arrest them but could never get proof that they had been the culprits,” Simantob writes. “Now they had proof. So thanks to MobileMe we will all be getting our belongings back and a family of criminals will be put in jail.”

If that story doesn’t sell the Find My iPhone feature, than I don’t know what will. - Jennifer Van Grove

But that "family of criminals" probably NEEDED that stuff worse than the owners did...for food and shelter...and maybe, illicit drugs and video games. Reply

So you think everyone punching each other out in the 2% of the sandbox open to the public is the same as pointing fingers at the champagne-sippers being entertained in the other 98% of the sandbox, the one you need an offshore bank account in order to get into?
