Nigerian Rebel Leader Dies in Police Custody

(Newser) – The leader of an uprising set on introducing Islamic law in Nigeria died in custody today, the BBC reports. Mohammed Yusuf was captured in his in-laws’ goat pen in Maiduguri—and was later seen standing and with no visible injuries by a Reuters reporter. “He has been killed,” a police spokesman said. “You can come and see his body at the state police command headquarters.”

Thats how you take care of radical Islam.......either try to co-exist in peace and recognize that not everybody has the same beleif, and leave it at that....or you reap the fruits of what you sow....apparently Nigeria didn't put up with their shit

Our views are similar on that issue and probably others but at this point I don't really give a s***. I'm sick of your condescending, demeaning attitude and I feel you have very little if anything to add to the site. (AP) - Saudi Arabia says starting Thursday, only females can work in women's lingerie stores. The 2006 law banning men from working in female apparel and cosmetic stores has never been put into effect, partly due to hard-liners in the religious establishment who oppose the whole idea of women working where men and women congregate together, like malls. Saudi's Arabia's most senior cleric, Sheik Abdul-Aziz Al Sheikh, spoke out against the decision in a recent sermon, saying it contradicts Islamic law. More»

(AP) - Nigeria's president today declared a state of emergency in parts of Africa's most populous nation, after a recent slew of deadly attacks blamed on a radical Muslim sect killed dozens of people. President Goodluck Jonathan declared an indefinite state of emergency in four states, which would all allow security agencies there to make arrests without proof and conduct searches without warrants. Beer gardens targeted

(AP) - Suspected members of an Islamic sect bombed three beer gardens in northeastern Nigeria, killing 25 people and wounding 12 others today, authorities say. Police blame the attack on a group known locally as Boko Haram, which earlier this month carried out an attack on the nation's police headquarters. Authorities say two men riding on a back of motorcycles threw bombs at beer gardens, which are popular nightspots for locals. More»

Several die as Goodluck Jonathan starts term

(NEWSER) - A bomb blast rocked the northern Nigerian city of Bauchi within hours of the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday. Several people were killed, but an exact death toll was not released. A second minor blast hit a beer hall just outside the capital of Abuja, where the president was sworn in. The attacks are believed to be the latest in a series of bombings by Boko Haram, an Islamic group challenging Nigeria's government, reports CNN . While the Nigerian elections were widely regarded by the international community as the most peaceful ever, some Muslims have charged that the presidential vote was rigged.
