It's Beer Time at White House

(Newser) – It's happy hour at the White House. President Obama, Joe Biden, Henry Louis Gates Jr., and James Crowley are clinking beer glasses in the White House Rose Garden, but alas, the media isn't invited to listen in. Earlier, the president sought to tamp down expectations, noting that he's "fascinated with the fascination with this evening." (CNN has no fewer than five cameras in place.) He even objected to the term Beer Summit.

"This is not a summit," Obama said. “It’s a clever term, but this is not a summit, guys. It’s three folks having a drink at the end of the day and hopefully giving people an opportunity to listen to each other. And that’s really all it is."

@prowlerzee: isn't this the best way for these guys to act at the time though? Why is there so much negativity towards 4 guys having a beer, talkin about whatever, after the entire thing was over. Doesn't this very thing happen in a lot of places? I know it isn't popular with everyone but this is certainly better than having the media hound them through court proceedings. As a matter of fact it's a nice change of scenery. For a change!

Well sonangreg, let me be more specific. I think Obama has more important and critical national issues to attend to then weighing in on local issues, where his opinion means little more than mine. I believe that Obama is behaving more like Oprah than President of the United States. I believe he is demeaning the office of President of the United States. I believe that for Obama to apologize for his comments is humiliating to his office, for God’s sake (but can I use that word?) he is President of the United States; he does not apologize to anyone. We need leadership, not group hugs.
