Maher: Birthers Stupid, But Dangerous

Ridiculous crap has a way of getting out of hand in America

(Newser) – Lately, liberals have “been laughing heartily at the wacky antics of ‘birthers,’” the goofballs who think “President Obama is an African sleeper spy,” writes Bill Maher in the Los Angeles Times. But we need to stop laughing, because this is America, “where if you don’t immediately kill errant nonsense it can grow and eventually take over, like crabgrass or reality shows about fat people.”

Remember the Swift Boat Veterans? They were so stupid Kerry wouldn’t even discuss them, and look how that turned out. “Once these stories get out there, they’re hard to stamp out, because our media do such a lousy job of speaking truth to stupid.” The rational people need to stand up to the crazies. “I offer this deal: I’ll show you Obama’s birth certificate when you show me Sarah Palin’s high school diploma.”

All that needs to be done to debunk the birth certificate issue is to present a REAL birth certificate like the one the rest of us have with the time and date of birth, name of the hospital, doctor, parents, etc. The short form BO has put out is not a birth certificate. While he's at it, he might release his college transcripts, etc. Some transparency. (Let the libofascist rants begin!) PS: Maher said on CNN that the US is a "stupid country." The real certificate has been produced and people called it a fake. Maher didn't have to provide proof that Americans are stupid. Just listen to the topic Wolf was discussing - Can Sarah Palin be president? After seeing how incapable and ignorant she is, why are we still asking that question? That's like asking if GW Bush can be re-elected if third terms were legal.

I have one just like it--although it has my information on it and is from Missouri, unlike that birther on Youtube who has a birth certificate from "the United States." Why don't you believe the Republican gov. of Hawaii who states she has seen the reords of his birth? And I'm not a libofascist (whoever made up; that term proves Maher is right). I'm a person with an IQ over 70. By the way, President Obasma's grandfather (his mother's father) served in the US Army in WW2--doesn't that make him a citizen?

I urge the President NOT to authorize release of his birth records. Let the birthers rant on. Let them add additional strain on the already weakened immune system of the Right. "Wing-nuts" have taken over the Conservative movement in this country, have in fact shifted the whole national political standard dangerously to the Right as GOP'ers welcome the shift and fearful, defensive-minded and wrong-headed Dems appease in an effort to maintain a base and court moderates. But the American People have begun to see just how destructive, how sick, the Radical Right is, even if GOP leaders haven't. The truth is, the birthers are not unlike any opportunistic "bug" that exploits a weakened host. The Republican Party is indeed weakened, the birthers are further weakening it, and that's just fine with me. Releasing birth records would rid the GOP of this infectious group, and why do that? Let the Party of Limbaugh ("I want the President to fail!") go untreated. Let the infection run it's course. Reply

My son had to produce a birth certificate, in February, to get his drivers license, as well as many other forms of ID. I had the original copy but it was not notarized with the official seal, so the DMV would not accept it. It took us three trips to the DMV to finally fulfill all the requirements the govt. has for a 16 year old to drive in the United States. There are laws that we all have to follow, how the hell did BO get in the oval office with out providing the same documents that a 16 year old was required to produce. As a crabby DMV empolyee told me, "It's the LAW! There is no emotion to it! If you don't have the documents the govt requires you are out of luck" i guess the same does not apply to the President? Whats the big deal? Just go to the county records office of birth and pay 20 bucks for a sealed copy, we ALL have to do it at one time or another, and put the issue to rest once and for all - unless it doesn't exist. Not like that would make any difference in his case.

John McCain was born August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone. So is he a "natural born" Citizen? Technically he isn't and that means he should not have been able to run for president. I don't like being in the minority any more than you do, But allowing our constitution to be kicked to the curb and our highest laws ignored is what also allowed BushChen to run rogue and never look back after deciding which rule of law they were going to follow, and which one they would simply ignore. This is not a question about Obama; one president and the short time they occupy the White House doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the big picture. It's a much larger question than any one president or administration; it's about everyone following the same laws no matter what color they are, and no matter how important they are, or think they are. If the people don't wake up and take heed that the laws that have made this country great and have protected them from tyranny are beginning to mean nothing, then they might very well deserve the future that awaits them. When the REPUBLICAN Governor of Hawaii stands up not once but twice and acknowledges that he indeed has seen the original birth record on file, when two separate newspapers have it on record that the birth announcement was run however many years ago the day he was born, when the April Fools joke about his college transcripts was shown to be just that a joke post from TMZ and when each piece of legal and plain evidence has been shown the Birthers still cry and cling to the same old pile of crap. It is not that the evidence has not been shown, it is a matter of record that it has. The entire problem is the ones who so dearly hate that a Democrat not to mention the fact that a Black man has been elected eats their souls so badly they must scream and cry about a constitution which until 6 months ago meant nothing to them since they allowed the Republican President to shred it. I agree with you factually about laws and Presidents but I disagree with the color thing. First to demand our only elected President of a color outside the white zone in three hundred years hold up his birth certificate is about as racist as we could get. Secondly, no one who is afraid of his race and origins will believe anything tangible at this point. Lastly, the only thing left to do is to try and repeat logically over and over all the reasons that he is a citizen. This time, I've done so many others. Don't you think that Hillary who sold her soul to the devil for the Presidency would have been the first to toss him out of the race? She tried this route by the way and if she could find no purchase, I dare say an amateur be outta luck. After her, McCain tried too, but admitted it was all rumor. And oh my, wouldn't Palin have demanded a certificate at every one of her rallies. They went with Bill Ayars because they could prove that Obama once sat in his living room.

Terrified. We only have a Constitution because of the Whiskey Rebellion. Heck, most of the Founders didn't bother showing up--that's why they added a Bill of Rights. It was hot and everybody was in silk and velvet. They were trying to solve a specific problem for their rarified land owning, money holding slave buying problems. I think they spent a day on the president thing--notice Johnson had no vice-president? The rest of the time they spent arguing about how many percentage points of a real human being they would assign to slaves. Then they spent a few more weeks fighting about slave purchasing and came up with the clever idea that the only Amendment which could never, ever be ratified was a change to the 21 years of legal buying of people. Now, that they left stuff unresolved is what makes the thing a pice of genius. They didn't carve it in stone: they wrote it on water, and allowed it to grow and change as the country did. The simple idea that a president be a citizen was meant to keep out the British. Don't you think that if it were about birth as opposed to citizenship that Hamilton would have had an issue--he was born in Haiti---and Washington, too since they were the first Bromance. Birth certificates are like training wheels--you never need them after you're riding the bike. The bike is your passport, your senate run and everything we do daily without benefit of birth certificates. Except Little League-- now they are tough.

Give it up TC. Not even Scalia was the slightest bit interested in your theory when he had the chance.. If in fact the constitution were a bar preventing a citizen such as Barak Obama from serving as president, while allowing the US born child of any illegal immigrant to do so, then you should feel as strongly about the need to amend such a document as you say you do about righting the wrong Obama has allegedly commited. And I ask you, is there any doubt in your mind that Obama will be certified by the election officials of the 50 states 3 years from now allowing him to seek reelection? So, please stop tilting at windmills, good sir. Your single-mindedness on this subject is a rebuke to all here who disagree with you. We understand your position and we reject it.
