(Newser) – Steven Spielberg pulled a rabbit out of his hat today and signed on to adapt the Pulitzer Prize–winning play Harvey as his next film, Variety reports. First put on the big screen in 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart, the film about a man's friendship with a giant, invisible bunny is slated to begin production next year. It will kick off DreamWorks' new distribution and funding deal with Reliance and Disney.

I'd rather have had Danny Boyle re-culturize Mary Chase's Puka novel.

Hollywood is more interested in meddling with politics that producing quality products. The current trend to replace fine acting and scripts with shoot-em-up action thrillers like Tom Cruise doing inhuman stunts is an insult to the viewing public. Hollywood needs to get back to true quality works like Harvey and stop producing crap.

Actually the only classy, talented, gentleman in Hollywood right now is Hugh Jackman.
