(Newser) – Beyoncé and Lady Gaga lead the pack with nine MTV Video Music Award nominations each, People reports. E! adds another notable: Britney Spears, with seven. The awards are set for Sept. 13. Elsewhere:

  • One of the two police chiefs charged with breaking into the home of Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate has been placed on paid leave, the AP reports. Both cops, who are from neighboring townships, pleaded not guilty.

  • OJ Simpson could be free again if his lawyers get their way: They argued at a hearing yesterday the Juice should be allowed to post bond and leave prison while his kidnapping and assault case goes to appeal, the New York Daily News reports.
  • Is Guy Ritchie trying to make Sherlock Holmes gay? That’s what some think, considering the character shares a bed—and often wrestles—with Watson in the upcoming film. “There’s not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals,” one film critic tells the New York Post. “I think they’re just trying to generate controversy.”

The VMA's are a joke... You rarely see some truly creative, artistic music videos nominated but rather see top 10 songs as shoe-ins. As for OJ, thats absolute bogus.. He should rot in jail. And for SJP and the babies, who really cares all that much?

"Is Guy Ritchie trying to make Sherlock Holmes gay? That’s what some think, considering the character shares a bed—and often wrestles"... I've known brothers who have done this and aren't gay. And if he IS trying to make them gay, then so what?
