D-Backs Lead Teeters After Padres Win

(Newser) – The Diamondbacks watched their lead in the NL West narrow to a single game after their second straight loss, 6-4, to the second-place Padres. Arizona ace Brandon Webb gave up six runs on seven hits and earned an error in just over five innings. Arizona skipper Bob Melvin was kicked out of the game for disputing a call at base.

The Dodgers are also inching up on Arizona, moving to within 4 1/2 games in the thrilling NL West with a win last night. With 29 games left in the season, the D-Backs are gearing up for a tough September—and five more match-ups with the Padres in the next  week alone. "There's a lot of baseball left, man," Conor Jackson told the Arizona Republic.
