Labor Day Traffic Forecast: Not Quite as Bad

(Newser) – Nearly 29 million people will travel by car during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, AAA reports—slightly fewer than last year, despite lower gas prices. A gallon averages $2.75, down 10 cents from last Labor Day. The overall number of travelers this holiday weekend is expected to go up, however, thanks to a slight increase in air travel.

"Families appear to be concerned about the travel costs associated with an end-of-summer vacation," says AAA's president, "which may mean Americans aren't canceling previously planned trips but are not planning to travel more than they did last year." All told, the organization expects 34.6 million Americans to travel more than 50 miles this weekend.
