James Frey's Latest Creation: Pro-Choice, Pro-Gay Jesus

Once Oprah's enemy, now Christians'?

Share

(Newser) – James Frey pissed off a lot of people—including Oprah—when his “memoir” A Million Little Pieces was exposed as fictional—but his new book might spark even more ire. Illumination: The Final Testament of the Holy Bible features a Messiah who marries gays, impregnates a teen, and later takes her to have an abortion—and compares the Old and New Testaments to comic books, the New York Post reports.

“It's a theoretical third book of the Bible, one version of what it might be like if the Messiah, or Christ, actually showed up on the streets of contemporary New York,” Frey says.

He should sit down down and chat with Salmon Rushdie and talk about what it's like to piss off an entire religion. Reply

Just another run-of-the-mill attention whore...he'll be ignored by the sensible, which will only embolden him to try to piss off some other group, liberals or maybe Islam, who will be completely suckered into his little game.

I think christians are more offended by other books rather than fiction like this...http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/may/07/news.culture ....granted its from last year, but books like the last temptation of christ arent banned as much as books like "the giver" and "catcher in the rye"

Wow timi, you just set yourself up for failure. As a person who reads the news daily you should know that a lot of Christian groups will get pissed about ev-er-y-thing. I mean, they got pissed cause someone made a statue of him wearing jeans. C'mon.
