Chewed-up football cards for the Falcons' QB fetch $7,400 on eBay

(Newser) – A Cape Girardeau, Mo., woman let her two dogs loose on her collection of Michael Vick football cards, and sold the resulting mess for $7,400 on eBay, reports the Kansas City Star. The 22 cards were originally worth from $1 to $10 each; Rochelle Steffen says she will donate the proceeds to the Humane Society. The buyer is a former teacher who is suffering from incurable cancer

“This is one way I thought I could make a difference,” says Laura Norton-Dye, also from Cape Girardeau. Norton-Dye bid against 30 others for the handiwork of the Weimaraner and Great Dane. Other auctions for mangled Vick merchandise have cropped up on eBay, though Steffen's drew the most bidders.

(NEWSER) - Michael Vick will star in an eight-part documentary-style TV series about his life for BET. The Michael Vick Project, due in 2010, will look at Vick’s comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles along with his troubled childhood and—of course—the time he spent running a dogfighting ring. Vick Will Work With Humane Society

Soon-to-be-released QB will spread word against dog fighting

(NEWSER) - Michael Vick will work with the Humane Society to spread the message against dog fighting when he gets out of prison, reports CNN. Details are still to be worked out, but Vick is expected to work on programs designed to keep youths away from the practice and to help those convicted. Vick's sentence is up in July, but he's expected to be released in May or June to serve out his final weeks at home. More»
