Clemens, Yanks Down Sox, 4-3

Posted Aug 30, 07 4:00 AM CDT in Sports    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – The Yankees grabbed a share of the AL wild-card lead last night with a 4-3 win over Boston in the Bronx. Roger Clemens took a no-hitter into the sixth and surrendered only two hits in six innings for New York, while Boston's Josh Beckett gave up 13 hits en route to his sixth loss.

The Sox were without All-Star Manny Ramirez, out indefinitely with a strained muscle in his side. Though homers from David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis kept Boston close, Alex Rodriguez sealed the win for the Bombers with career homer 508 in the seventh. The Yanks climbed to within six games of Boston and tied Seattle for the wild-card lead.
