Dave agrees to pop in on Madison Square Garden show

(Newser) – David Letterman will appear on Oprah Winfrey's show next month for the first time, helping her kick off the new season with a rare appearance outside his Ed Sullivan Theater comfort zone. After a lengthy, frosty interlude, relations between the two started thawing 2 years ago when Oprah popped up on "The Late Show," the AP reports.

"Oprah" will visit New York for the first time in a decade and tape at Madison Square Garden on September 10, the New York Post reports. The Chicago fixture will be in town to focus on the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, including "good things" that have emerged in the 6 years since.

(NEWSER) - A struggling actor stuck waiting tables managed to make an appearance at the Ed Sullivan Theater—and was arrested for his trouble. Police say James Whittemore, 22, kicked through a glass door at the home of the Late Show with David Letterman yesterday morning, after a night of drinking, and crawled inside. He allegedly then used a velvet-rope pole to smash three more doors, the Wall Street Journal reports. More»

(NEWSER) - It's starting to look like Americans haven't moved from the couch all week. Early numbers show yesterday's finale of The Oprah Winfrey Show drew the most viewers it has had in 17 years. The final episode—which featured no guests , but rather a personal conversation between Oprah, her studio audience ... and millions watching at home—garnered a 13.3 household rating in the nation's metered markets, according to Nielsen.
