Dude, Ashton's Actually a 'Genius'

Mr. Demi Moore has reinvented himself and saved his career

(Newser) – Is Ashton Kutcher punking all of America? The former Abercrombie model—whose surfer dude shtick climaxed in the slacker classic Dude, Where’s My Car?—runs his own production company, boasts the largest following on Twitter, and speaks eloquently about genetics. “He’s a guy’s answer to celeb brands like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, but without the train-wreck baggage,” Anne Becker writes in Newsweek.

“I always felt like I wasn’t great at anything, so I should just be good at a lot,” says the Iowa native, who once dreamed of studying biochemical engineering. His interests turned to genetics after his twin brother was diagnosed with a debilitating condition, but showbiz remains his forte. His latest role is as Anne Heche's boy toy in Spread. “It would be amazing if U C it 2nite and send me a review,” tweets Kutcher. Writes Becker: His strategy is “so dumb, it’s genius.”

Part of Ashton’s appeal is that he reads as so low-key-like your slightly goofy, but über-cool dude friend.
- Anne Becker, Newsweek

I never had a moment where I thought I just wanted to focus on acting. I always felt like I wasn’t great at anything, so I should just be good at a lot.

Ashton Kutcher's newest film endeavor, Spread, had a dismal opening this weekend. Despite showing lots of skin and pimping the film hard on the talk show circuit, the limited release didn't even make the Top 20, earning just over $100,000.

I remember playing in a band and texting all my friends to try and convince them to come to our gigs - why? Because without them the place would have been empty! LOL - I wonder if his mum and immediate family go out and suffer his movies again and again to show support - I know mine did :-)
