A Quarter of Middle-Aged Men Binge Drink

Excessive alcohol consumption isn't just for college kids

Share

(Newser) – Binge drinking is generally thought to be a college-age phenomenon, but middle-aged people—especially men—live it up as well, the New York Daily News reports. A new study in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that 23% of men and 9% of women between 50 and 64 years old had binged—consumed five drinks or more in the same day—in the past month.

Gee I go to an afternoon baseball game, consume two or three beers before the game, perhaps three beers at the game, and visit a bar after the game and drink three more....In 7 hours I have consumed nine beers and this makes me a binge drinker?.... I don't think so.....Heck I'm in bed by ten.... Reply

yeah, SPH, and if on the way home from the ball game, you should be involved in auto accident, assuming you were behind the wheel, it's automatically your fault. The teetotalers among us, on the rare occasion they may have imbibed, are apt to have totally lost control of themselves, and because they are not able to "hold their liquor" so to speak, they judge everyone else by themselves. Ergo, the ridiculously strict "driving under the influence" laws.

Wow! It's as if I farted in church, or something. The silence is deafening.

Definition is 5 drinks in 2 hours, for a male and 4 for females.

Maybe it's because most middle-aged men are married--to middle-aged women
