(Newser) – Cautioning that the Internet isn't 100% trustworthy, a federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by a man who blamed a website for his arrest on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The man set up a rendezvous with another SexSearch.com user whose profile listed her as 18, only to learn—from arresting officers—that she was 14.

“John Doe” sued the site for not protecting him adequately despite its claim that “all persons on this site are 18+,” Ars Technica reports. But federal law protects the site; it exempts "computer services" from fact-checking info users provide. Having been through the registration process himself, "Plaintiff was not an unsuspecting customer," the judge ruled.
