Woman to Pro-Health Reform Jewish Guy: 'Heil Hitler!'

(Newser) – In the latest health care-related video to go viral, a woman at a Las Vegas town hall on health care shouted “Heil Hitler!” at an Israeli man as he spoke to a local TV station about Israel’s “fantastic” national health care program, ThinkProgress reports. “Did you hear this? She say to a Jew, ‘Heil Hitler’!” he said to the interviewer. “Shame of you!” he yelled at the woman.

He railed at her about the high cost of US health care. “Two hours in the emergency room. How much you think they ask me to pay? $8,000!” he said. In response, she made weeping noises, suggesting he was a crybaby.

The man is 100% correct, in Israel when a soldier is discharged they are not abandoned in the streets, if they are sick they are cared for. I have 17 HOMELESS GI's who served in the sand box at my half way house with a list of medical issues that would make a Doctor faint. These guys were discharged with physical as well as emotional issues and left without a dime to live in the streets and 4 of them have medals for serving in action. As for Medical care each and ever american deserves better and these right wing freaks who know only to spread fear best get up out of the way or a train will run them over and I got news for them, the train is heading right at them now but they are to blind to see. The man in the earlier story is correct, you would be better off talking to a kitchen table than waste breath of a right wing moron

Shame of you!"—she appears to have briefly forgotten which one she is. In the most cosmic of ironies, she is wearing an Israeli Defense Forces t-shirt, so it's not likely that she's a rabid neo-Nazi. And this is not just fringe people ... I have friends on Facebook (I need to edit down my list), people I KNOW are smarter than this, who still use this kind of rhetoric. It's NOT, I am convinced, about really fighting for a better way to do healthcare reform. It's about fear of change, about hatred, bigotry and selfishness. It's about those always most vocal about being moral, righteous, decent ... the "good Christians" and "proud Americans" ... who could care a less, truly, about their neighbors and therefore know nothing about being Christian (faithful in any way) or American. It's about the UGLY AMERICAN. The "I want whatever I want no matter how it will hurt others or the environment" American. It's the saddest thing about us, perhaps. We could be so much better than this. Last November, after such a long time, I thought we had redeemed ourselves. Then these people, again, not fringe, but representational of many Americans, come out in force. Enough to make you want to weep. Reply

MrsK, do you even understand the purpose behind the 2nd Amendment? It was forged in a time when we did not have a developed police or military system of protection, and the country, in the process of fending off an angry crown and other encroaching countries with interest in our resources, had only citizen militia in which to protect itself. This is no longer the case. In fact, the guns owned and used by the citizenry mostly only serve to create problems for policing entities. Maybe the 2nd Amendment has served way beyond its time.

Alan, you are correct to call me out for facts here to support my assertion about how guns impact violence, which causes more problems for police. I did not think it really necessary to support this with facts given I would think anyone, no matter their position, would agree we have way too much gun violence in this country. Now, do I know for a fact that more than 50% (which would indicate "mostly") of those who own guns at some point commit some offense with said gun? Okay, you got me there. I do not know that for sure ... that 50%+ of guns lead to some criminal offense. I took liberties with my statement. You are correct ... I lose a point in the debate. I still believe that our country has way too many guns which contribute to way too much gun violence and it is way too easy to buy guns of all kinds. All the related gun violence serves to violate the peace and safety of our society, which was the whole purpose of the 2nd Amendment ... to protect a young, growing nation.

Maryz - Most guns, and by that I mean >90% are never associated with a crime. The second Amt. was designed as a counter balance to OUR gov't, in addition external threats. And finally the use of guns in self defense uses reduce crime by a lot. The state with the widest concealed carry laws have the lowest crime rate, and the incidence of crimes committed by this group is under .01%.
