Jackson 'Self-Harmed' to Get Drugs

Singer was spending $50K a month on prescriptions

Share

(Newser) – Toward the end of his life Michael Jackson was so desperate for prescription drugs, sources tell investigators he harmed himself in an effort to get more, the Mirror reports. Jackson was reportedly spending nearly $50,000 a month on drugs including Vicodin, Soma, Xanax, Zoloft, Paxil, and Prilosec, and he was beset with side effects from shaking fits to hallucinations.

“Michael was prone to self-harming,” says a source. “He’d bang his head against the wall, hit his fists and arms against furniture.” In addition to a quest for more painkillers, “Michael self-harmed mainly as an attention-seeking mechanism or to gain sympathy,” says another source. “He enjoyed being cared for. It was a huge cry for help.”

This article would make Michael spin over in his grave, but, oh, he hasn't got one yet. Reply

Ok, sure this could be true. However he really was ill with Lupus and it has symptoms of constant pain all the time. If people look closely at pictures (court) of his hands, you can see them swollen in an arthritic fashion, a Lupus symptom. So ya, maybe he was hitting his head and stuff, but it could have been from going out of his mind from the constant pain he was in. A person can only take so much pain. And perhaps the meds he was taking were not helping him. Keep in mind that he was still a person, not a freak! Basically his problems go right back to his father, the trial, and the media. He literally went insane from fame, he was the one who was really "Mental Molested" by everyone. I hope he is at peace, and his torture is over. Reply

While I do agree with most of this, I doubt very much Michael banged his head against the wall. We would have seen pictures of him with bruises. The media would have a field day with that, just like anything else they could conjure up about Michael. I agree completely about his so-called father, the trial and the media. Michael must have been a lot tougher than he was given credit for considering all he had to tolerate. Most would have cracked long before he ever did. At least he had his fans, his mother and Janet. No wonder he didn't trust adults with all the crap they dished out plus the money they were after. Tom Messerau was a true hero for what he did for Michael during the drummed up molestation charges. R.I.P. Michael. We will love you always.
