Yanks Sweep Sox In The Bronx

Posted Aug 31, 07 4:17 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang's one-hit outing handed the Yankees a 5-0 win over Boston last night, the final installment of a crucial three-game sweep in the Bronx. Though the Sox busted Wang's no-hitter in the seventh, the righty blanked their All-Star lineup to give New York a half-game lead over Seattle in the American League wild card race.

Boston now leads the division by only five games. Robinson Cano had a tremendous night at the plate, hammering two homers off Boston All-Star Curt Schilling. Meanwhile, New York's John Chamberlain was ejected in the ninth after throwing two pitches over batter Kevin Youkilis' head. Manager Joe Torre insisted his young gun's aim was unintentional.
