Injury Decks Becks for Most of Season

Brit superstar out for six weeks after knee sprain

Share

(Newser) – LA Galaxy superstar David Beckham will likely miss most of his widely anticipated American soccer debut season after spraining his right knee in a match on Wednesday. Beckham went down on a tackle by Pachuca's Fernando Salazar during a SuperLiga title match. Trainers say he'll be out at least until October.

"It's just gone from one thing to another," said Beckham. "Maybe it's time just to say, 'I need the rest.'" LA has not commented on its star's status, though teammates affirm that Beckham's absence will be an incalculable loss to their offense. Beckham has already missed seven games of the regular season because of an ankle injury.
