LSU Shuts Down Miss. State

Posted Aug 31, 07 6:18 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – In spite of a shaky start, the LSU Tigers tore through Mississippi State's offense to rack up their eighth straight victory last night, reports the AP. New quarterback Matt Flynn found his rhythm in the second quarter, ending with 128 yards and two touchdowns. His Bulldog counterpart Michael Henig struggled with a fumble, four sacks, and a record six interceptions.

The second-ranked Tigers capitalized on Henig's mistakes—Mississippi State's stalwart defense allowed LSU only one scoring drive not sparked by a turnover. The Tigers' defense was in top form as well, holding the Bulldogs to 10 rushing yards and allowing them only two runs into Tigers territory. This is the 26th loss in four seasons for Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom.
