VA Mistakenly Tells Hundreds of Vets They Have ALS

'Coding error' to blame for ALS mistake

(Newser) – Because of an error, the Department of Veterans Affairs incorrectly notified 1,200 veterans they had ALS, the fatal neurological condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, the AP reports. The letters alerted the veterans to disability benefits available to those who suffer from the disease. Thought the VA has not yet commented on the slip-up, the VP of the National Gulf War Resource Center said a “coding error” was to blame.

MAAA-AAADDDD! (hands on my hips, tapping my toes) Didn't you see the article about the VA employees' big bonuses while veterans did not get their checks? I thought that article was here at newser, but I can't find it now. Here's a link from (ugh) CNN, check it out: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITI....

My friends and I have been using the VA "government health care" system for years. Haven't paid a penny because of my income and have had the best care I ever had in my life. I would hate to think what would have happened if I weren't a veteran and had to pay for MRI's, Xrays, blood tests, procedures and tests. I would be bankrupt.
