The Healthiest Ways to Watch TV

Mehmet Oz gives his top 4 tips

(Newser) – Dr. Mehmet Oz is getting a new show starting Sept. 14, inspiring Esquire to ask Oprah’s favorite physician how to watch the tube in the healthiest way possible. His recommendations:

  1. Drink water—Take advantage of the opportunity: you won’t mind its blandness when your focus is elsewhere.
  2. Munch on nuts—particularly walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds. Their monounsaturated fats are good to clear arteries and raise serotonin levels.

  1. Get some exercise—Do 10 push-ups during commercial breaks. Not only will the exertion make the most of “boring downtime,” the hard work will encourage you to turn off the TV sooner.
  2. Stretch to stay loose—Sit up, fold your hands behind your head, and move your elbows back to “open your chest.”

Since he's joining the ranks of those with a teevee show, Dr. Mehmet Oz thought he'd offer a few suggestions as to how to watch his healthfully.

How much would a semi-silent treadmill cost nowadays? The treadmill I have is incredibly loud.

Seriously, people nowadays severely lack self motivation and are comfortable being couch potatoes.

I'm surprised you didn't fall asleep while watching LOTR.
