Sources at today’s taping of The Late Show With David Letterman tell Gawker that Anna Wintour—the Vogue editor portrayed by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada—“was like Hannibal Lecter.” In her first-ever appearance on the show, Wintour ditched her trademark shades, the source adds, but “barely moved, she sat at the edge of her chair. She’s reptilian.”

Asked by Letterman about her reputation for making quick work of colleagues, Wintour, 59, replied, “I have strong opinions and people know that.” But, on the whole, it seems the foray did Wintour no harm. “She didn’t shit the bed,” said an audience member. “She held her own—more than I would have thought.”
