Iran Reformist Publishes Prison Rape Account

Karroubi says more allegations of protester abuse to come

Share

(Newser) – A testimony released by defeated Iranian presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi details a male protester's beating and rape at a notorious prison after the disputed election. The first-person account is just one of many, Karroubi alleges, and CNN reports that he will continue to publish them on his website "if the current trend continues." Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently ordered the closure of Kahrizak prison, where several inmates say they were raped.

"I was in prison, blindfolded and tied down," the man's testimony reads. "They beat me almost to death and did the most despicable thing to me, which is rejected even by all infidels and idol worshipers. I only had the courage to make Mr. Karroubi aware of this."

No, I can't prove that and have no reason to try to prove that. I don't think in-power Bush officials raped prisoners in prison. They did, however, advocate and encourage torture which included such things as rape, waterboarding, etc.
