Explosives Charges Raise Terrorism Fears

Posted Aug 31, 07 3:50 PM CDT in World US

(Newser) – Two Florida college students who had an explosive device in the trunk of their car when they were stopped for speeding have been indicted on federal explosives charges, and one faces a charge of supporting terrorism, the Tampa Tribune reports. A legal expert called the indictment, unsealed today, "very bizarre because they almost sneak in terrorism."

Ahmed Mohamed and Youssef Megahed, who are from Egypt, were busted August 4 near a South Carolina military prison that houses enemy combatants. They've been in state custody while the FBI investigated, the AP reports. Mohamed, who faces the terrorism charge for teaching Megahed how to use the device, said they were carrying fireworks.
