Calif. Girl Abducted in 1991 Reappears

Cops arrest alleged kidnappers of Jaycee Lee Dugard, now 29

Share

(Newser) – A woman missing since she was abducted in 1991 at age 11 stunned authorities and her family yesterday when she walked into a northern California police station, the Contra Costa Times reports. Jaycee Lee Dugard's alleged kidnappers, a married couple, have been arrested and charged with kidnapping and other offenses; the husband, a registered sex offender, faces rape charges.

Dugard’s stepfather Carl Probyn said his wife, from whom he is separated, called him at 4pm yesterday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. “She basically said, ‘Are you sitting down? They found Jaycee—she’s alive.’” Probyn says the FBI called his wife, who believed it was a cruel joke until she spoke to the woman on the phone. Now Terry Probyn and the couple's other daughter are flying to Northern California to meet the woman.

Nothing could compensate for what these culprits have done. Although I'm not an advocate for the death penalty in most cases, I'd make an unequivocal exception, in this case. This woman is surely to have been through an unspeakable ordeal. Reply

The death penalty only works as a deterrent when done correctly. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1I7KiCuAU4k/SYfuWwYy-KI/AAAAAAAAEeI/MXJBV5dxcJQ/s400/brazen_bull_kidicarus222.jpg

Punishment should fit the crime, 18 years captive should should call for life w/o, the first 18 years in solitary confinement in the worst cell that can be found. applied to all kidnappers of children!!! no mercy for monsters
