Feds Probe Hsu for Using Mail Carrier's Family

(Newser) – The Feds are probing claims that top fundraiser Norman Hsu used a mail carrier and his family to donate to the Dems, the Wall Street Journal reports. Officials suspect that Hsu reimbursed the family for their donations, which were similar in amount and timing to Hsu’s. Hsu denies the felony charge, saying he only asked others “to give money out of their own pockets, and sometimes they have agreed.”

Hsu, who turned himself in on an unrelated grand theft charge yesterday, fled California in the early 1990s and relocated in New York to run apparel companies. He ran in Democratic fundraising circles and became known as a “bundler,” someone who rounds up checks to make large political donations. An ex-senator remembers him fondly as someone who “gives and doesn’t ask for anything.”
