(AP) – Space shuttle Discovery and seven astronauts blasted off seconds before midnight (EDT) from Florida, lighting up the sky for miles around. It was NASA's third launch attempt. Tuesday's try was called off by thunderstorms and Wednesday's by fuel valve trouble. Discovery is hauling a full load of space station supplies, including a treadmill named for Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert.

The shuttle is a fine piece of engineering but come on, let's face the fact that we built a glass spaceship. Hopefully whatever we build to replace it will be better. Reply

A glass spaceship? The shuttle program has lasted 28 years. more than half of our entire manned space program. Care to elaborate? Reply

No shit. DrZ is usually so astute, wish he'd elaborate. I think our space shuttle program is the envy of the planet
