Iran Reopens Nuke Negotiations

Tehran will present 'updated' package to US, others in Germany today

(Newser) – Iran will present an "updated nuclear package" at talks with five UN Security Council nations and Germany today, according to state-run Iranian television. The Islamic Republic's chief nuclear negotiator promised to "cooperate in order to alleviate mutual preoccupations"—days after Angela Merkel threatened stiffer sanctions if Iran did not return to international talks. Iran has been at odds with the UN for more than a year over its nuclear program, which Western nations believe is meant to produce weapons.

Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, has led Western calls for further sanctions against Iran unless the Islamic Republic returns to nuclear talks.

I have little hope of these negotiations producing anything meaningful, just like the years of negotiating with DPRK haven't done much. The Iranian government is too set on showing off how "powerful" it is to care what any other country says. Still, negotiations are far preferable to military action. Reply
