Sharpton Tweets During Jackson Burial

Reverend's thumbs stay busy during historic ceremony

(Newser) – The burial of Michael Jackson was a somber, private moment—and Rev. Al Sharpton made sure all 10,286 of his Twitter follows knew it, E! Online reports. During the ceremony, Sharpton chatted with MJ's friends and tweeted: "We are all discussing his battles. This is a real moment for those who witnessed what he"—whoops, those pesky character limits. Sharpton went on: "What MJ went through was so unfair, yet he succeeded..."

Sharpton included himself in the tweets: "I just spoke at the conclusion of tributes. Glady knight sang her heart out. Now we prepare to lay him top rest.” A few minutes later: "MICHAEL JACKSON HAS BEENb LAID TO REST."

(NEWSER) - The richest man in the Arab world has bought a big stake in the social media service that has helped protesters in the region organize. Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has paid $300 million for a stake of around 3% in Twitter, the Wall Street Journal reports. "Social media will fundamentally change the media industry landscape in the coming years," said a spokesman for the prince's investment company, which owns sizeable stakes in firms including Citigroup, Apple, and News Corp. The good news is, in some theaters, those tweeters will have their own section. As more theatergoers live-tweet performances, so-called "tweet seats" are becoming "a national trend," the director of a Shakespeare festival tells USA Today . To wit, art-minded tweeters will find a place at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Raleigh's Carolina Ballet, and Ohio's Dayton Opera. Teen Tweeter Won't Apologize to Dissed Kan. Governor

(NEWSER) - A Kansas teen who blasted her conservative governor in a tweet is refusing to apologize—even though she has been ordered to do so by her school. "Just made mean comments at Gov. Brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot," Emma Sullivan, 18, tweeted to pals during a speech by Gov. Sam Brownback at a Youth in Government event. In fact, she didn't diss him to his face, but was "just joking" with friends, she explained later. However, Brownback's aides, who monitor tweets about their guy, complained to Sullivan's school, reports the Kansas City Star . But Emma is defying her principal's orders to write a letter of apology. "I would do it again," the self-described liberal told AP . "I've decided not to write the letter but I hope this opens the door for average citizens to voice their opinion and to be heard," she tweeted. More»
