Milwaukee Cops Arrest Suspected Serial Killer

Man linked to murders of 9 women from 1986-2007

(Newser) – Authorities in Milwaukee said tonight they have arrested a man they suspect in the murders of at least nine women during the past 21 years, the Journal Sentinel reports. Walter E. Ellis, 49, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and his DNA was found on nine women killed from 1986-2007.

Eight of the women—all African-Americans and prostitutes—were strangled; police think someone else might have actually killed the ninth, a white 16-year-old whose throat was cut. “We intend to bring justice to these victims and their families,” said the county district attorney, promising more charges to come against Ellis.

Milwaukee police say Walter Ellis, 49, is their suspect in nine killings of women between 1986-2007.

"the murders of least nine women during the past 21 years"...Makes me ask the question, if these women had been the wives, daughters, loved ones of some fat rich politician or even a cops loved ones how long do you think he would have been allowed to roam the streets especially when they had samples of DNA to work with.......He selected his victims from those society would never moss yet they were human, they cried, they laughed and they loved and they all died unnoticed for so long Reply

At any given time there are 50 serial killers murdering in the US. It takes about as long to catch one as it takes the world to make another. Reply

@ Reader64481089 thanks for stating what I obviously meant, I had made no inference to race what so ever and to be honest I did not notice in this version of the story if indeed they were all black. What I said was it is a shame it took so long to catch the bastage that was doing this but someone decided to make it a race thing? My statement was clearly a social thing not race....grow up and look for trouble elsewhere

Are you upset because these were all black women and you don't feel that they received fare justice or are you upset because they were all black prostitutes who didn't get justice ,or do you care because your a black American who feels this was all just another screw-up by police system you feel has already written these poor women off. There are many cases that have never been solved or never will because of lack of enough police to investigate the rampant crime situation in this country . I would hope by now that this would be the only reason that this case went nowhere for so long . However I fear that most will think like you and believe the worst of law enforcement . We all scream for the police to do more ,but cry out in anger when they don't provide protection in a pristine manner.. Or stand back and cheer as more and more restrictions are placed on them and how they perform their jobs. These men and women are only human and are only capable of giving so much, so they fail occasionally if you want more protection then be someone who stands beside them instead of someone who only finds wrong in how they do their jobs . Actually he didn't say a word about black or white, you did. What he stated that due to social situatons many times a serial killer has been known more than once allowed so to speak keep up the string of murders based upon the social cirstance of the victim. Cases in point one serial murder who went uncaught for 32 years in California because he prayed upon Prostitutes and even though the MO was the same with each no task force was formed UNTIL he by fluke or design grabbed on two separate occasions women who were 1 a school teacher out for a walk and the other was a Nurse, then someone just happened to remember the MO of the other murders 17 I think and pulled all the case files from the cold case files. A similar station arose in New Mexico as well. A shame that in some cases this is allowed to go on far to long when it could have been stopped sooner, same with the young lady who was kidnapped for 18 or 19 years and cops saw her frequently as well as many others in the print shop
