Symantec aims to raise cybercrime awareness

(Newser) – A rising number of cybercriminals make their living selling other people's online identities to thieves. Now a new security tool helps you calculate what yours is worth on the black market—and your risk of losing it, IT World reports. The Norton Online Risk Calculator aims to raise awareness of cybercrime. The bad news: "It's shocking how little value criminals place on your credit card," said a spokewoman, even though it often costs the victim a fortune.

(NEWSER) - Some computers and other electronic imports are packed with malware before they're even out of the box, a congressional expert on cybersecurity warns. Hackers overseas planning cyber attacks are planting bad codes in components headed for the US, Rep. Jim Langevin tells Reuters . "Corrupting hardware and software is embedded in the supply chain. (NEWSER) - Hackers have accessed and leaked the passwords of some 180 workers at FBI-partner InfraGard, says the Atlanta-based organization. "Someone did compromise the website," said the local head of the group, a volunteer public-private partnership that shares info about threats to US physical and Internet infrastructure. Victims include members of the Army, internet security groups, and top communications firms, the AP reports. Sony Blames Anonymous for Hack Attack

Group denies 'incompetent' company's allegations

(NEWSER) - The activist hacker organization Anonymous is at least partly to blame for the huge Playstation Network security breach that exposed the data of millions of customers, according to Sony. Company officials told US lawmakers that they discovered a file on one of its servers with the hacking collective's name and its "We Are Legion" tagline, reports the Los Angeles Times . Sony believes its network was breached while it defended itself from a denial-of-service attack from Anonymous, which was protesting a lawsuit brought against a Playstation hacker. More»
