Google's New UFO Mystery Solved

Somebody's obsessed with HG Wells

(Newser) – Google has apparently been abducted by aliens. The search engine sent Twitterers on an extraterrestrial mystery hunt this week after Tweeting map coordinates and posting "Google" written in crop circles as its ever-changing Internet logo. The coordinates led to the English town of Woking, which was the landing site for Martians in HG Wells' War of the Worlds.

The high-tech scavenger hunt was launched ten days after another Google doodle showed an "O" being abducted by an alien spaceship. What does it all mean? Tweeters think it's part of a big lead-up to celebrations next week honoring Wells, who was born 143 years ago.

This crop circle in Canada was made by Greenpeace activists, not extraterrestrials.
