(Newser) – Raymond Clark, the lab tech "person of interest" who was picked up by police last night in connection with Yale grad student Annie Le’s murder, was released this morning after DNA samples were taken, CNN reports. Clark shares his apartment with the girlfriend he is engaged to marry in December 2011, the Hartford Courant reports. Fiancee Jennifer Hromadka works in the same lab as Clark, and described him on their wedding blog as "a bit naive, but he is a good guy," adds the New Haven Independent.

Clark is not officially a suspect, and police say they haven’t ruled out other suspects. As the investigation continues, a source says Le was asphyxiated; the official cause of death is still pending. Authorities are trying to determine if Le was sexually assaulted; she was found fully clothed in the outfit she was seen wearing in video of her entering the building. The source says it looks like she was killed in the basement, then moved to the 2-foot crawl space in the lab she had been working in.

75 CCTV cameras in one building with access control card readers on every entrance/exit and lab door seems like a fairly high security posture to me. The question is, was there anything that wasn't done that should have been done from a community standard? If what provided was reasonable and prudent, with no previous indicators or incidents to suggest inadequate security, then saying they need "higher" security is a subjective and non-professional viewpoint. There is no such thing as infallible security. Anywhere. That doesn't mean Yale should not undertake a careful post incident review and address any gaps in the current security program, but just throwing a lot of money at security will not provide either a high quality or effective program.

Yale University really needs to buckle down on their security measures. Yes, Annie Le was probably murdered by someone with facility access and was a member of the Yale community, but the fact remains: Yale is an abundantly wealthy school, which in public eyes appears to house wealthy students. It is also surrounded by a community, which lives below the poverty line. There are huge socio economical gaps in New Haven and it leads to crime. I know there's a community help effort lead by Yale, but there also must be higher security. PinkEntry.com
