(Newser) – European farmers today dumped 800,000 gallons of milk in a Belgian field, AFP reports, in a protest against a dramatic dive in prices. The group behind the scene says three French farmers committed suicide in the past week over prices, which have fallen by as much as half as the recession dampens demand. The European Commission has promised a limited aid package.

The current government would like to STOP paying them NOT to farm, but some other members of that government, namely Congress people from Montana, etc., want the welfare to continue.

You just love slapping labels so everything fits in your tiny little box collection don't you, did you ever consider the great amount of people in this country are descended from who you call Euro-trash and scumbags? Now let me really twist your tiny brain...Those farmers who feed the world hardly make a profit and at best break even thus in America the family farm has been dieing out for many years. Corporations have taken over the family farm because they can do it all cheaper by purchasing in large bulk and it is the same in Europe, the family farmer is just attempting to scrape by except they do it year after year not just when the economy is bad. Each year for them is a gamble, rain falls at the wrong time they are screwed and loose it all, to much rain they again are screwed, insects swarm and they jit at the wrong time an entire years crop gone along with a huge investment the farmer has made. Now dairy farmers, in America they are subsidized, in Europe not so much. In America the Gov basically has the price fixed on a dairy farm by controling the amount of milk produced. 15 to 20 years ago the Gov here purchased massive amounts of dairy cattle and had them slaughtered to cut production and eliminated many family dairy farms leaving only a few and most dairy is now owned by large corporations. Here the Gov stockpiled cheese for years, it was kept in huge underground facilities and given away to the poor just to get rid of it. They did this to fix the prices and keep the market level for if all dairy hit the market the price would drop like a rock and farmers would go belly up, the farmer goes belly up one year later your well fed face goes hungry because nobody can afford to farm, same as in Europe. The European farmed has the same issues and they do not have a Gov who totally subsidizes the dairy industry as ours does, Each year they basically borrow money on a gamble that they can pay off the damn bills and have enough left over to live on. Know what the hell you are talking about for once, get educated and attempt really hard to try and understand that people in this world do not fit the way you think they should, they have real problems when they begin to kill themselves and they do not farm for fun, they attempt to keep a tradition alive and feed your fat head so you can mouth off over things you know nothing about

Its sad that they have to lower the demand in order to make enough money to live. One of the major problems with capitalism is the instability of growth. A company grows so big while making money and then a recession hits and demand for that item drops. The company has to much capital and to big of a work force to adapt and many people are left jobless.
