Martha to Jess: Get a New Dog

Stewart knows the pain of losing an animal, says Simpson is partly to blame

Share

(Newser) – Fellow dog lover Martha Stewart feels bad for Jessica Simpson, whose maltipoo was snatched by a coyote, but tells Us, “She should have watched it more closely, though. She should have been more careful.” Stewart, who lost a treasured pooch of her own in March, did have some advice for how Simpson could best move on: “Get another dog.”

“I think it's very important to get another dog, someone else to love,” Stewart continues. “You just have to find the dog that's the right match for you.” Simpson doesn’t seem quite ready for that yet, recently tweeting that she is still searching for Daisy “despite the assholes that say is it a dumb thing to do.”

Ms. Simpson, your beloved pet is probably dead, coyote's kill what they view as a potential threat if male and use domesticated females only to breed with on occasion. Chances are they made a meal of your pup so move on, if your dog turns up count yourself very lucky indeed Reply

stewart's comment that simpson should have been more careful in watching her dog was very insensitive. i am quite sure that jessica is blaming herself and feeling bad eough. as for stewart's advice to “Get another dog.” is even more insensitive. most pet owners who lose a beloved pet need time to grieve and to process that grief. not everyone, for everyone is different. stewart should have offered sympathy not “Get another dog.” animals aren't like stationary objects. it's like saying that if your toaster broke, just get another one. @schmid - depends on the person, really, as far as getting another dog. getting another is not to replace the first because dogs and cats have personalities as distinct as we do and there is no way you can replace one. however, you can get a new pal to love and love you back unconditionally. from working in animal rescue, I have found it really depends on the person...some want a new pal immediately and some want to grieve first and there are even some who may not get another for years or at all. and I also agree with Martha on watching the dog although she didn't have to say it publicly. i have a yorkie and he is only 5 lbs. I do not let him out in the yard unless I am with him. Because of his size, hawks and other birds of prey could take him, bigger dogs sometimes think small ones like him are rabbits or squirrels and it is just best to keep an eye on the little fellows....i may not even be able to stop something from happening, but the chances are better if I am outside with him, so I hang out close by until he's done his bidnezz...

snarly - that is what i said, that everyone is different. when my 16 1/2 year old shepherd was declining i adoped a fox terrierfrom a rescue organization., that i ignored in for the most part in tasha's wanning days. it took a long time to get over a 16 1/2 year pal. but me and the little foxy, now in may care for 6 years, have now developed a bond. not as strong as the shepherd, but he gets his strokes and love, the little stubborn stinker. not my heart dog but a beloved pal nonetheless. yes, everyone is different as is every dog, or other pet.

@schmid - sorry, i did miss that part of your first comment. I REALLY need to get my eyes checked and get new glasses...it's been a while. That's cool about you and the fox terrier; i'm glad you have bonded and I know what you mean. I love my Bart more than myself, but my first dog Tate will always be the "one"...dogs rule....
