Another Red Sox Call-Up Shines

(Newser) – Fresh-faced outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury came a double short of the cycle last night as the Red Sox downed Toronto, 5-3. The rookie has two homers in 31 major-league at-bats, including a two-run bomb in the fourth inning last night, compared to two in 436 Double- and Triple-A at-bats this season. Said manager Terry Francona: "Glad he's saving them up."

Josh Beckett, who outdueled 2003 Cy Young winner Roy Halladay, joked that enigmatic Sox stalwart Manny Ramirez may be in danger of losing his job. Ellsbury is not the only Boston September call-up to impress, either: Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter Saturday in his second big-league start.
