Arizona Within .001 of San Diego

Posted Sep 5, 07 4:31 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – As they have done all season, Arizona followed a lopsided loss with a win, prevailing 9-1 against division-leading San Diego following a 10-2 drubbing. With a 77-63 record, the D-Backs are now just .001 behind the Padres (76-62) in the standings. Enormous All-Star Chris Young, 6'10", was walloped for five runs in four frames.

They came on a three-run shot from Eric Byrnes and a two-run moon shot from Tony Clark, who is now 4-for-9 against the righty with four home runs. The many one-sided losses Arizona has absorbed has led to a negative run differential of -36, an astonishing figure for a team 14 games over .500.
