'Montauk Monster' Killed in Panama

Hairless creature on beach confounds cryptozoologists

(Newser) – A bizarre-looking creature found on a Panama beach has excited the world of cryptozoology, the Daily Telegraph reports. A group of teens said they feared for their safety and beat the hairless creature to death as it crawled from a cave and moved toward them. The animal—dubbed "Gollum" in the press—has been compared to the "Montauk Monster" photographed last year. Others believe it may be a hairless sloth.

"While some say it may be a being from another planet, others simply believe that is an animal," Panama's Telemetro wrote.   (Telemetro)

That's us humans for you: A harmless creature appears, and because we know nothing about it, we beat it to death. "Homo sapiens"??? Homo ignoramus, actually.
