(Newser) – Fresh faces are all the rage at tonight’s Emmys, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting and a host of first-time nominees up for top awards, People reports. Family Guy is the first cartoon to be nominated for best comedy series in nearly 50 years, and Jeremy Piven’s snub for a best supporting actor nod has widened the playing field to new contenders like Entourage costar Kevin Dillon.

30 Rock and Mad Men both swept the previous Emmys, and are expected to clean up again. But some of the shows’ actors who didn’t make the cut last year are favored to win this time: for example, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss, and 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan.

Piven isn't nominated? Oh my god, there is hope yet! His acting is so one note yet always seems to win.
