"While I don't often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual," she says in a statement to the Advocate . "I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. Left-handed people more likely to develop neural disorders

(NEWSER) - About 10% of the population is left-handed, but a disproportionate amount of people with schizophrenia—20%—are lefties. Schizophrenia is just one of a number of psychiatric and developmental disorders that are more common in left-handed people, including dyslexia, ADHD, language difficulties, and mood disorders. Researchers think this could have something to do with the fact that each half of the brain performs distinct functions. Typically, a person's brain has a dominant side; in righties, that side is usually the left hemisphere. But 30% of lefties exhibit right-hemisphere dominance or a distributed pattern of dominance, which could lead to the greater risk of brain disorders. More»

Team with bisexual players stripped of trophy by gay sports group

(NEWSER) - Three bisexual softball players who say they were stripped of a trophy because they were deemed "not gay enough" have reached an out-of-court settlement with a national gay sports organization. San Francisco's D2 team lost its 2008 second-place trophy in the Gay Softball World Series when the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance determined through a series of "intrusive" questions about their sexuality before a panel that three members were "non-gay," and the team therefore exceeded the limit of two heterosexual players, reports the San Francisco Chronicle . Though one of the three men was married at the time, all three consider themselves bisexual, but say they were told at the time: "This is the Gay World Series, not the Bisexual World Series," according to their lawsuit. Refutes 2005 study that found male bisexuality was unproven

(NEWSER) - There's good news out there for men who have ever been attracted to both men and women: Unlike the unicorn, you are real. Or so says a Northwestern University study, which goes a long way toward refuting a controversial 2005 study that found that “with respect to sexual arousal and attraction, it remains to be shown that male bisexuality exists.” Says the current study's lead author, “Someone who is bisexual might say, ‘Well, duh!’ But this will be validating to a lot of bisexual men who had heard about the earlier work and felt that scientists weren’t getting them.” More»
