(Newser) – Sara Corbett writes in The New York Times Magazine about the role of women soldiers in the Iraq war and the extraordinary toll it is taking on many of them.

Not only are women in large numbers in harm’s way from enemy fire, but they are at risk of being harassed and sexually assaulted by their male comrades in arms. Post traumatic stress disorder is affecting inordinately large numbers of women veterans.
