Think Clinton's Impeachment Was Messy? Wait for Obama's

GOP will bow to Beck or Limbaugh if they take back Congress

Share

(Newser) – The GOP will try and impeach President Obama on some ridiculous charge if they're ever able to get Congress back, and it's not going to be pretty, writes Bob Cesca for the Huffington Post. Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh will come up with a reason for impeachment and a way to sell it, which won't be hard—the party has already had 100 members of Congress endorse the "cartoonish" czar bill. But contrary to the picture the media is painting, the left wasn't equally "guilty of wackaloon attacks" like these during the Bush years.

There were no shortage of people on the left, and even the "fringe," calling for Bush's impeachment, Cesca acknowledges, but their concerns—even though they turned out to be largely accurate—never became anywhere near as mainstream as the right's ranting about death panels and birth certificates. The '90s will look "quaint by comparison" if the GOP takes Congress back next year, Cesca concludes, and "it's clear that no matter how ridiculous the charges, the media will devour the spectacular drama."

Any 'fringe' attacks from the left during the Bush years weren't mainstreamed and legitimized the way the wingnut attacks are today, even though the fringe attacks from the left turned out to be mostly accurate. - Bob Cesca

They'll likely concoct some sort of ridiculous charge torn from a Beck or Limbaugh transcript, while generating public support for it using a Brundlefly hybrid of the Southern Strategy and neo-McCarthyism.

On the right, we're hearing about communist takeovers, birth certificates, Oval Office dress codes, teleprompters, death panels. During the previous administration, the left insisted that Iraq didn't have WMD. This turned out to be true. -

And this is why I hate the Dems and don't really trust O. They had a year to impeach that bastard Bush and they did NOTHING. Clinton was impeached for getting a dress dirty. Bush killed 4000 American kids in Iraq to make money for Halliburton and the Dems did NOTHING. I will vote for a third party next time even if I have to write my own name in.

@ spudsy. you won't have towrite your own name in. There will be plenty of other people running. If you don't like any of the third parties, write in one of the democrats that the media will not give any time to. Dennis Kucinic and Mike Gravel are two examples of primary candidates shunned by corporate media from the start. If they get no time it means they aren't in there pocket. But there were 8 or 9 parties running in last election if i remember correct.
