Dems Willing to Deal on Troop Pullout

(Newser) – Senate Democrats are signaling they are willing to compromise with Republicans on a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq. The Democrats, who pushed before the summer recess for a pullout deadline next spring, have been undercut by some progress in Iraq and the success of the White House in maintaining Republican support for the war, reports the New York Times.

The Democrats will likely press for some modest withdrawals by the end of the year. They are also considering revisiting some earlier bipartisan proposals. One is a proposal that any troops deployed in Iraq must spend an equal amount of time in the US before being sent back.
