(Newser) – Allen Stanford is back in his jail cell today after spending the weekend recuperating from injuries suffered in a fight with another inmate last week. The alleged Ponzi schemer was taken to the hospital with a concussion, a broken nose, and two black eyes. “He is in reasonably good spirits, although he was feeling a lot of physical discomfort,” his attorney told Reuters.

The attorney said he didn’t know who else was involved in the brawl but said he had “reason to believe that he was targeted in some way because of who he is.” Stanford has described conditions in the Joe Corley Detention Facility in suburban Houston "intolerable.” It's not clear whether the incident led to a court order today mandating that Stanford be moved to a detention center in downtown Houston, the Chronicle reports.

Agreed! Safety should be a priority even after conviction. But like my Mamma said once in 1974 "boy if you think being sent to your room was bad, just be glad I am keeping you out of prison cuz your room is a picnic compared to Booneville". Even though safety should be an issue, I gotta think it's every dawg for himself in the joint. Juat another realy good reason to walk the straight and narrow and not seek the fast, easy and illiegal way to prosperity. Sorry Mr Stanford but you didnt follow the rules. Why are all the people who wrecked the banks not going to prison?

They're going to pass Stanford around like currency in jail. His asshole will be part of a Ponzi scheme, if you know what I mean.
