Polanski Taunt Brought DA Down on Him

Director's lawyers said prosecutors weren't trying to catch him

Share

(Newser) – Roman Polanski may have his own lawyers to thank for his current predicament. This summer, in an attempt to get the charges against the director dropped, they told an appellate court that prosecutors weren’t actually trying to catch him, because they were afraid to face old misconduct allegations. That ticked off the DA’s office, which says it's made several attempts to nab the fugitive.

That may shed light on why Polanski has suddenly been arrested, after decades spent openly traveling around Europe, including Switzerland. “He’s one of the most visible public figures in Europe,” says his agent. “This is not a case of someone being one step ahead of the law.” What set this Switzerland trip apart was that it was his first highly-publicized appearance since his lawyers filed those offending court documents.

Write this on your calender Jay, we agree so the earth may swap poles. Polanski is a piece of trash Pedophile and I do not care if it had been 80 years he needs to go to prison or worse. All that sets him apart from everyday Pedophiles we read of is his money and public face due to his role in movies, that and all his money. Put the piece of trash in prison and I don't care he paid the lady he molested while she was a child, it isn't enough.

um the real problem is that the mom of the girl basically dropped her at his house, got paid to leave her there for a "visit"... come on, he's not some angel but let's get real- how many parents have done this or worse to get their kids into "hollywood"... you'd be surprised. there's a lot bigger fish to fry out there- people who are serial predators.
