Garrido: Cops Trampling Dugard's Civil Rights

Kidnap victim denied free speech, access to attorney, suspect writes to local TV reporter

(Newser) – Phillip Garrido says the woman he’s accused of abducting as a child and holding captive for 18 years is being denied civil rights as part of the ongoing investigation, he writes in a letter to Sacramento’s KRCA-TV. Jaycee Dugard’s “free speach [sic] rights are being violated,” Garrido says in urging reporter Walt Gray to step in, and she was “repeatedly denied access to have an attorney present during questioning.”

Gray attempted to speak to Garrido today for further details, but Garrido wouldn’t talk without his attorney present. Not surprisingly, the attorney put the kibosh on the interview request, saying she’d repeatedly told Garrido not to talk to the media, and that she’d tell him again in no uncertain terms.

Who's offering to give him a back rub? Not anyone I have heard from. Here's what I'm offering him. A chance to be locked away for the rest of his natural days with the very real fear that the rest of the prison community will kill him on some rainy day to pass the time.

Right! We're civilized. First we give him a trial. Then we shoot him.
